HISTORIC WAXAHACHIE, INC.

Waxahachie contains one of the finest concentrations of turn-of-the-century commercial and residential architecture in Texas. The city evolved as an important trade center with the coming of several railroads in 1879. Four major railroads criss-crossed the city, giving cotton farmers in the productive blacklands around Waxahachie a convenient, low-cost means of shipping their crops to market.
The vibrant local economy of the late 1800s and early 1900s contributed to a construction boom that resulted in the extraordinary Ellis County Courthouse, the Waxahachie Chautauqua, the rapid development of the surrounding downtown commercial area, and created large neighborhoods filled with vernacular and popular house types as well as the more opulent residents of the prosperous businessmen.

Historic Waxahachie Inc. is committed to the preservation of the historic fabric of our city. Current projects include the Wyatt Building restoration, Calaboose restoration and the upcoming railroad depot project. Please join us in our efforts to preserve the historic jewels of our community for future generations.
